It seems that during the holidays, the inclination to give to those that are less fortunate really grows. This is understandable, when we are showering our loved ones with gifts… But the reality is, donations are beneficial year-round.
Even though the holiday season is officially over, I recently took my girls to the local Hope Mission to help pack up hampers for the homeless. They have a great children’s program that includes games and crafts to create the hampers and other care packages. While packing up bags for the homeless, they really got a sense of how little some people have. They couldn’t believe that some people don’t even have socks and toothbrushes. My oldest daughter also recently took part in a group volunteer activity at a local Community Services building, which was a very humbling experience for a 10 year-old, who is just starting to learn about the realities some less fortunate people face on a daily basis – Like being hungry and having no food to eat.
Although donating your time is wonderful, not everyone has the extra time on a regular basis to be able to volunteer, especially busy parents with small children. By donating to charities and organizations that help people in need, you can be confident that your hard work/money is going to a good cause.

Giving back is always great for the soul.
