Edmonton Christmas Glow Festival – New location, New Theme for 2019

The Edmonton Glow festival is back in Edmonton for the 2019 Christmas season! Walk under millions of twinkling lights, see interactive displays, stroll through the musical light tunnel, see Santa, play in the magical playground and more. This year’s theme is Around the World – follow Santa through 6 different countries as he delivers presents! It really is a gorgeous display and fun night out for the family that everyone is going to remember.

When: November 28, 2019 to January 4, 2020

Where: Edmonton Expo Centre – 7515-118 Avenue, Edmonton

What you need to know:

  • You need tickets. Purchase them on the Glow website beforehand here. You can purchase tickets to attend one-time or buy a season pass to come multiple times!
  • Kids 3 and under are always free 🙂
  • GLOW has a new theme and new location this year: Around the World at the Edmonton Expo Centre
  • This is an indoor event
  • This event sold out completely on several event days last year – buying tickets in advance is highly recommended
  • This is a family friendly event! Lots for the kids to see and do
  • Parking at the Expo Centre will be available at a special rate for GLOW – $10 per vehicle

Tips: It is cheaper to attend on weekdays

What you can expect to see:

  • Huge illuminated displays
  • LED hopscotch & swings
  • Small Christmas shop
  • Live band, playing mostly Christmas music
  • Train for kids 12 & under
  • Snow – inside!
  • Musical light tunnel
  • Santa
  • Magic play park
  • Glowing play floor
  • Hanging light displays
  • Hanging, glowing photo frames with props
  • Scavenger game for kids – find all of the big presents inside, get stamps, collect a prize!
  • Food & drinks
  • The best candy apples, ever. (personal opinion)

Tips for going with the kids:

  • The expo centre is huge! Bring a stroller or wagon for smaller kids who might want to take a break from walking
  • There will be gift shops, snacks and drinks available for purchase. You may end up with several things to carry out, or around, especially if you don’t check jackets – be prepared for this!
  • They have light-up light-bulb shaped cups for drinks, and you are going to want one, and so will the kids. You get to keep the cups
  • You can see Santa while in there! He’s close to train
  • Keep an eye out for special characters – we saw Disney princesses last year 🙂
  • You are going to want to take pictures of everything. This set up is spectacular!

This experience comes highly recommended, especially with the kids. Our review of Glow festivals: My girls didn’t want to leave, and didn’t stop talking about how much they loved it the entire way home. If you do end up going, have a fantastic time!

    1. Hello, they’re trying to get this deal for GLOW patrons but it has not been confirmed yet. The blog reflects the Expo Centre’s standard parking rate – will update if we get a confirmed discount guarantee from GLOW.

      1. Thank you so much! I have been working on a budget for someone with disabilities to attend the event and just wanted to note the exact cost. This helps me greatly.

  1. Just wondering about the food options- do they have mostly snack type stuff, or are there meals available? We’re going around dinner time and I’m just trying to decide how much I should pack or the kids! Thanks in advance

    1. Hi! There’s a small food court in the expo centre itself but I’m not sure of the hours. There is food options inside of the GLOW area – they’re seen briefly in the videos on my Instagram under the highlight “GLOW” if you’d like to take a look: http://www.instagram.com/edmontonmama

We just ate lightly before we went and smacked there 🙂 hope that helps!
