Christmas Glow Has Come to Edmonton: Reasons You Should Go, And Tips For When You Do

The Edmonton Glow festival has arrived! Walk under millions of twinkling lights, see interactive displays, stroll through the musical light tunnel, see Santa, play in the magical playground and more. It really is a gorgeous place to take the family for an experience everyone is going to remember.

What you need to know:

  • You need tickets. Purchase them on the Glow website beforehand, here.
  • GLOW is located in St. Albert, inside the Enjoy Centre: 101 Reil Drive, St. Albert
  • This is an indoor event
  • This event sold out completely in Vancouver last year, and is expected to do the same here – so if you want to go, get your tickets while they are still available.
  • This is a family friendly event! Lots for the kids to see and do
  • You can check your jacket before getting to the entrance for $2 per coat

What you can expect to see:

  • Huge illuminated displays
  • Small Christmas shop
  • Live band, playing mostly Christmas music
  • Train for kids 12 & under
  • Snow – inside!
  • Musical light tunnel
  • Santa
  • Magic play park with swings
  • Glowing play floor
  • Hanging light displays
  • Hanging, glowing photo frames
  • Scavenger game for kids – find all of the big presents inside, get stamps, collect a prize!
  • The best candy apples, ever. (personal opinion)

Tips for going with the kids:

  • Know where to go to avoid walking around when you get there: The entrance is just off of the parking lot, down the stairs. You will have to follow the signs through the grocery section, up the escalator, through the greenhouse, and into the area where GLOW is set up.
  • The washrooms are located just outside of the entrance – note where they are, or go before entering!
  • You need a stamp to get back in if you exit for the washroom
  • There is a cute gift shop, and snacks and drinks available for purchase. You may end up with several things to carry out, or around, especially if you don’t check jackets – be prepared for this!
  • They have light-up light-bulb shaped cups for drinks, and you are going to want one, and so will the kids. You get to keep the cups.
  • You can see Santa while in there! He is in the back!
  • Keep an eye out for special characters – we saw Disney princesses 🙂
  • You are going to want to take pictures of everything. This set up is spectacular!

This experience comes highly recommended, especially with the kids. My girls didn’t want to leave, and didn’t stop talking about how much they loved it the entire way home. If you do end up going, have a fantastic time!
