Start the car! A weekend of family-friendly fun activities is just a day trip away. Sylvan Lake is approximately 1.5 hours drive from Edmonton and they are hosting a huge Winter Festival and Big Jig Fishing Derby over the Family Day weekend.
Winner of the Big Jig (catch & release) Fishing Derby will win a cash prize of $3000! You can bring your own gear or rent them from providers in town.
When: Family Day Long Weekend – February 18-21, 2022
Where: Sylvan Lake; most events will take place on or close to Lakeshore Drive.
What to expect
All weekend:
- Pass the poutine contest at various restaurants
- Lake skating rentals (free)
- Winter village lights from 5-10pm (free)
Friday, February 18:
- Glow n Throw Axe throwing (pre-registration required)
Saturday, February 19:
- The BIG JIG ice fishing derby, 6 am to 9 pm (pre-registration required)
- Learn to fish, 11 am to 4 pm (free)
- Kinabik Discovery Village – 11 am to 4 pm (free) – sledge hockey, snow bikes, Snowshoes, Curling, Bean Bag Toss, Tug of War, and Sleigh Rides
- Outdoor games – Noon to 4 pm (free) – Giant Jenga, mini golf, and dominoes
- Fire on Ice show – 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm (every 25 minutes, FREE)
- Fireworks show at 7 pm (free)
Sunday, February 20:
- The BIG JIG ice fishing derby, 6 am to 9 pm (pre-registration required)
- Learn to fish, 11 am to 4 pm (free)
- Outdoor games – Noon to 4 pm (free) – Giant Jenga, mini golf, and dominoes
- Oval Ice Racing Series – $5/person or $15/car (cash)
Monday, February 21:
- The BIG JIG ice fishing derby, 6 am to 3 pm (pre-registration required)
