“When’s the Lemonade Stand? Is it today?” Big dude has been asking me this question every morning since I signed the boys up to participate in Simply Supper’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation that takes place this Sunday, August 27.
Earlier this summer the boys talked me into hosting a lemonade stand in front of our house and it was a huge hit. So when I heard about this program, I jumped at the opportunity to expose my boys to the power of giving back to the community. At six and almost-four years old, there are not a lot of volunteer opportunities that are either available or suited for my dudes. Simply Supper has taken the summer tradition of lemonade stands and given kids across Edmonton (and area) a chance to make a difference in the lives of other children.
This year with 256 stands and 755 kids participating, it won’t be hard to find a stand in your neighbourhood. This map indicates where all the stands are and their hours. Each stand sets their own hours and prices but all the proceeds are donated to charity. Our boys are sure to have a steady stream of family and friends visiting their stand but we hope to see some new faces too.
Tomorrow we’ll unpack our lemonade stand kit from Simply Supper, filled with everything we need to have an awesome stand (thank you to all the sponsors), and make our sign. The dudes are currently debating between decorating with aliens or ninjas but whatever they pick the “Be Happy Lemonade Stand” will be open for business on Sunday, August 27.
