Here is your guide to the Marvel & Avengers movies in the order they chronologically took place. And a list of the new Marvel movies expected to be released in 2021/2022!
This is the order the movies should be watched in:
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
The Captain America story is set in 1940 when he enlists in WWII, and ends in 1945.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Most of the Captain Marvel is set in the year 1995, but there are flashbacks to her plane crash (where her story begins) in 1989.
Iron Man (2008)
Said to be set in the year 2010, the story of how Iron Man came to be.
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Although there is some debate, this movie is said to be set in 2010, just after the events of Iron Man.
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Set the year after the original, Iron Man 2 is set in 2011.
Thor (2011)
Thor is also set in 2011, but includes flashbacks from centuries before.
The Avengers (2012)
The Avengers team comes together: this movie is set in year it was released – 2012
Iron Man 3 (2013)
This movie takes place in 2012, following the events from the movie The Avengers.
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
The Thor sequel is set in 2013.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Set a couple of years after the Avengers originally got together, this movie is set in the year 2014.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
This movie takes place around the same time as The Winter Soldier, in the year 2014.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Set just a few months after the original Guardians of the Galaxy, this movie is set in the year 2014.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
The Avengers are together again, set in the year 2015.
Ant-Man (2015)
Set around the same time as Age of Ultron, Ant Man starts his story in the year 2015.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
This movie takes place in 2016, with flashbacks dating back a generation before.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Taking place in the Fall after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man starts his story in late 2016.
Black Panther (2018)
The story of the technologically advanced Wakanda takes place in the year 2016 as well.
Doctor Strange (2016)
The origin story of Doctor Strange is set in both 2016 & 2017.
Black Panther is set somewhere in the middle of this timeline and can be watched before or after this one.
Thor: Ragnorok (2017)
Takes place just after Doctor Strange’s story (who also makes an appearance in this movie), set in the year 2017.
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
This movie is set in 2018, just before the Infinity War.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
This movie takes place over the course of just a couple of days full of action in 2018.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
The movie starts just after the events of Infinity War, but takes place mostly in 2023.
Spider-Man: Far From Home (2023)
This movie is set shortly after the events of Endgame, in the year 2023.

Great news: Between Netflix Canada and Disney Plus, most of these titles are available to watch right from home if you are subscribed to these monthly services (by the way, they both also offer free trials!)
Not able to access the movies on your streaming service? No problem. Did you know? You can rent DVDs from your local library – The Edmonton Public Library even has a few Marvel movies available. Otherwise, YouTube offers the option to rent or buy movies directly through their platform as well.
