Date night around here is frequent, thanks to a husband that makes it his business to know what’s on the go in Edmonton and inlaws that are extremely generous with their childcare time, sleepovers with the kids and just general ‘coming over for a couple of hours while we go to a meeting or check out a new restaurant’.
But, I know that’s not always the case – I know it can be hard to fit in a date night with the lack of childcare – and the fact that it’s extremely hard to hand over sixty bucks to a babysitter that has watched the kids for a night out of dinner and a movie – tack on the extra costs of tickets to things, and date night could be damn near impossible.
I firmly believe in making date night happen, if it’s possible – and even if it has to happen with a bottle of wine and a couple of episodes of whatever you’re binge watching on Netflix, but we’re going to change all that with my top date night splurge for summer 2017 in Edmonton – Cirque du Soleil ‘Kurios’.

Under the big top at Northlands, it’s always an incredible show. I remember the first show Jamie and I saw together, as a date night, three years ago. The incredible performance and the intimate feeling space of Amaluna had us both enthralled, and remains our favourite Cirque du Soleil performance to this day.
That being said – there’s some big things being said about Kurios, that makes me really, really excited to see it in July. The reviews have been phenomenal this far, and have mentioned that there are some never before seen innovations in the show. I can’t wait to see it!
