Chinatown Lunar New Year at Royal Alberta Museum

Welcome the Year of the Snake on Sunday, January 26! Join the Edmonton Chinatown BIA’s Lunar New Year Celebration starting with a lively Opening Ceremony and outdoor parade at 11 am in the north end of Chinatown, meet in front of Lucky 97 at 10725 97 Street. Follow the Lion Dancers as they make their way to the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM). Afterward, from 12 – 4 pm, warm up with kung fu demonstrations, cultural performances, activities, and celebrations. Don’t miss a visit from the Money God, who will be handing out red envelopes on a first-come, first-served basis—all free to enjoy in the pre-admission spaces.

Celebrate Lunar New Year with this special History Hunters Day Camp! This unique camp experience will take campers on an exciting journey through Alberta’s aviation history, filled with interactive games and activities. With a special Lunar New Year twist, they’ll uncover fascinating stories from the **Years of the Snake**, including key events from **1929, 1941, 1953, 1965**, and more!

Campers will tap into the resourcefulness and intelligence associated with the Snake, discovering how these qualities influenced historical events.

While all Zodiac signs are welcome, this special History Hunters camp will only be available for one day—so be sure to secure your camper’s spot today for a memorable adventure!

 Lunar New Year Celebration at Kingsway Mall

Kingsway is excited to host the Lunar New Year Festival, in collaboration with the Chinese Graduates Association of Alberta. This vibrant festival offers a wide range of family-friendly activities, including performances, games, workshops, and more. Events will be spread throughout Kingsway, with larger performance and workshop areas located on the main level near JD Sports and the upper level near Marshalls.

One of the highlights of the festival is the traditional lion dance, a significant performance during Lunar New Year and other cultural celebrations. The lion dance is believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and drive away evil spirits for the year ahead. Performers, dressed as lions, move to the rhythm of drums, cymbals, and gongs, creating a lively and exciting atmosphere for all ages.

When: Saturday, February 1,2025 11am-5pm Parade Starts at 11:30am!
