The annual Edmonton Bike Swap takes place this coming Saturday, May 11 at the Expo Centre. This is a safe place to buy, sell or donate your family bikes.
When & Where:
When: Saturday, May 11 from 8am to 4pm
Where: Expo Centre – 7515-118 Avenue, Edmonton
Selling Your Bike:
- Drop your bike off for sale anytime between 8am and 2pm
- You will need to pay a $15 per bike fee to put your bike up for sale – get $5 off this fee if you present your AMA card
- Bike sales are also subject to a 13% consignment fee
- Note that clean, ready to ride bikes sell best
- You set the selling price, but event organizers and volunteers can help with this
- Bike Techs on site will inspect your bike and record the serial number – bikes must be in riding condition at this point
- You leave your bike at the event to be sold – if it sells you will receive notification right away and a cheque in the mail within 1-2 weeks
- If your bike does not sell, you will be contacted to come back and pick it up
Shopping:
- There is a $2 entrance fee for adults, and children 12 & under are free.
- All bikes on the floor go through a basic tech check to make sure bikes are safe and in riding order
- The line up to buy bikes starts at 6am – although the event starts at 8am
- Expect lines any time you decide to go
- If you want first dibs on a bike, it is best to volunteer at the event!
Donating Bikes:
- You can drop off bikes to donate anytime between 8am and 4pm
- Money from donations and admission fees go to local non profit organizations
Note that only bicycles that can pedal & stop will be accepted at this event. Bikes are usually priced between $50-$4000, but organizers try to help price them to sell. Remember that lines are expected any time of the day, and parking fees may apply.
Tip: If you can get dropped off & picked up from the event, save on parking!
