Awesome Places to Have a Picnic With the Kids in Edmonton

You can have a picnic just about anywhere! But we found some really cool spots to try out for a little lunch/snack adventure.

William Hawrelak Park

Hawrelak park is huge with tons of spots to stop and have a picnic. We suggest anywhere you can see the lake 🙂

Location: 9330 Groat Road NW

Sir Wilfred Laurier Park

Close to the Edmonton Valley Zoo, Laurier Park has many picnic areas to choose from, a playground, green space and lots of trails to explore.

Constable Ezio Faraone Park

Great place if you love sights like the River Valley and the High Level Bridge. Lots of space for a picnic and room for the kids to run around.

Alberta Legislature Grounds

The grounds by the legislature are beautifully maintained and a great spot for a picnic. There are hills to run up and down, a nice path to walk along and water play for the kids.

Government House Park

This area has gorgeous views plus – picnic benches, BBQs and portable bathrooms.

Jackie Parker Park

Plenty of space for a picnic with a lake view option PLUS one of the largest parks in the city, a spray park, toddler park and an off-leash dog area

Location: 4540 50 Street NW

Emily Murphy Park

Right on the river bank with plenty of spots to choose for a picnic and lots of room for the kids to play.

Borden Park

Sit in the sun or in the shade! There is plenty of space for everyone in Borden Park, just East of downtown. Check out the trails & cool art sculptures while you’re in the area.

Louise Mckinney Riverfront Park

Right in the heart of the Rivervalley, this is a gorgeous place to hang out for lunch. Be sure to take a walk down the trails, don’t miss the Chinese Garden Pagoda.

Millennium Park in St. Albert

Just off the Sturgeon river, this is a great place to picnic with the kids. They even have a fun foot bridge!

Location: Along the Sturgeon river, Just behind the St. Albert Provincial Court

University of Alberta Botanic Garden

This area is absolutely stunning – but there is admission to get in to the gardens.

Location: Just outside the City – 51227 AB-60, Spruce Grove
