Looking to buy a new-to-you bike? Or sell yours? Both? Look no further – the safe place to buy/sell your bike is at the Alberta Bike Swap – The Edmonton Bike Swap is to be held on May 12, 2018 at the Kinsmen Sports Centre Fieldhouse (9100 Walterdale Hill)
All bikes being sold are to be ride-ready, so they are each checked by the volunteer mechanics at the swap for safety. Bikes must be worth a minimum of $50 to pass the basic tech check. There will be bicycle mechanics on site in the morning to repair any bikes that need it for a fee, or you can choose to donate a fixer-upper.
BUYING
Admission to get into the sale is $2 per person, but children 12 and under are free. The sale is on from 2:30pm to 4pm on May 12, 2018. Cash or debit is accepted for payment. They allow the line up to start as early as 7:30am, but advise that if you want first dibs on a bike, to consider volunteering for the event, instead of spending the day in line!
SELLING
Bikes can be dropped off anytime between 8am and 2pm. Sellers must pay a $15 racking fee for each bike at drop-off time, and will owe and additional 13% of the selling price. (If it sells) – AMA Members save $5/bike rack fee, you’ll have to bring your card with you for the deal.
You get to pick the price you’d like to sell your bike for. Although 90% of bikes sell, they do suggest that you price it competitively for better success in selling. You just drop it off, pay the fee, and the Alberta Bike Swap does everything else. They will either call you around 4pm if your bike did not sell (you’d have to pick it back up by 5pm), or they mail you a cheque for the sale price of your bike, minus the 13%.
Professionals are there to perform the mechanical checks and make the sale for you for your item. You do not have to be there with your bike, they are sold by consignment.
