Red Deer’s Canyon Ski Resort is set to get Alberta’s first Alpine Roller Coaster, ready for visitors by the beginning of Summer, 2022.
Where: Canyon Ski Resort & Recreation Area – 38433, Range Rd 264A
When:
- Tentative opening date: Saturday, June 25, 2022
- This Summer’s operating days/hours are expected to be Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm (but could be adjusted based on demand) – and yes, they will be open on stat holidays!
- Set to be open annually from May long weekend to Thanksgiving
What to expect:
- Monorail track nearly 1.4km long
- Coaster will start at the top of the canyon and go down toward the Red Deer river
- Riders choose the speed – from a slow pace up to 40km/hour
- At the end, riders will remain seated and will be pulled back up the river valley via a t-bar lift
- Younger kids can be doubled with a parent; kids as young as 8 years old can ride on their own
- Parking area for the Alpine Coaster will have a ticket concession, food and beverage area and washrooms
