My LO Turned Two Today, And I Am Not Going to Miss The Baby Years

Baby years – good riddance.

Every child is different, and I have a standing joke with a bunch of other moms I have met, that there is always one child that gives you a bit of extra trouble. Mine is my third, my little one who turned two today. I know some of my friends whose child turned two, and it was really emotional for Mom, who is “losing” her baby and taking on a toddler. Birthdays when the child is 1 or 2 are really for the parents/mom because the birth of your child is about you as well. You grow with your child, and that was Mom’s special day, too. Little one’s don’t know it’s their birthday until about the age of 3, so the first two are a celebration for Mom, and the 2nd birthday really is a milestone. Me, though? I am not sad.

I love my little one, of course. But I will not look back and wish I could re-experience 6 months of colic, waking up every hour, the use of screeches and cries instead of words, the mountain of diapers, the separation anxiety, the weaning, the co-sleeping (and waking up often to a heel in my throat).

I am so excited that we reached this milestone together, my beautiful little trouble maker. Here is to the terrible two’s, potty training, tantrums, hugs, new ways to play, new challenges, and developing better communication. I can’t wait for the next two, the next 20. Happy birthday to my little princess!
