5 Incredible Fall Day Trips You’ve Got to Plan this Year

Getting out of town for the weekend is easy when there is so much to see and do. From a pumpkin festival to a hot air balloon experience that’s going to light up the night sky – here’s what you should see and do in Alberta this fall.

See Giant Pumpkins in Smoky Lake
Your kids are going to love seeing pumpkins as big as they are, in a day trip to Smoky Lake. The pumpkin festival is a great way to get out of town,

Climb in a Canyon
Head just ninety minutes out of town to Hard Luck Canyon where you can take a short, five-minute loop to experience a canyon with plenty to explore. If it’s been a wet weekend, there’s even a small waterfall to see.

Visit the Jungle Farm
Take a scenic wagon ride to the pumpkin patch, where it’s filled with pumpkins. Visit the pumpkin tent, after the first frost and check out the corn maze, wooden play structures and other adventures around the farm.

High River Balloon Fest
The hot air balloon festival during the last week of September will feature balloons from Canada and all around the world. Come for the festivities, including the ‘Night Glow’ where you can see balloons light up the night sky. There will be food trucks and family fun.

Buffalo Harvest Days
The ancient buffalo harvest is a very important story told at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. Celebrate Alberta Culture Days, Saturday, September 30: Join our Blackfoot guides on a guided tour through the building. Participate in our “Living off the Land” artifact demonstrations. Taste buffalo themed cuisine from our cafeteria. Watch First Nations artists demonstrate their skills and display their artworks. Sale discounts in our gift shop for all three days! Free Admission all three days. Shuttle bus service and cafeteria open.
